Vaisala’s dedicated Transportation Weather Consulting team uniquely provides a consultative approach to solving your weather-related challenges. With over 30 years of experience in the road weather industry, the team has built an in-depth knowledge base and robust professional network. In addition to traditional competences of Thermal Mapping and Route Optimization, we deliver consultancy to support continuous performance improvement and network optimization for severe weather. By utilising climatological spatial reanalysis techniques we are able to assess various weather impacts on the roadway over time. One such analysis, is the impact of precipitation. By examining historical precipitation events it is possible to make decisions about the location of sensors and determine thresholds for intervention to limit future impact on mobility. Enabled by latest data-mining techniques we now produce quantitative summaries from historic weather observations. Utilizing high quality data from the Vaisala Meteorological Database, all available historical weather station observation data is analysed, to guide business cases to support resource investment; ensuring appropriate response to manage the risk of future severe weather events.
